Range for singers

Historical Background

George Frideric Handel (1685–1759) was a German-born composer who later became a naturalized British citizen and one of the great opera composers of the Baroque era. Trained in Germany and Italy, he mastered the Italian operatic style before settling in London. He composed more than forty Italian operas, shaping opera seria through expressive arias, vivid characterization, and strong dramatic pacing, writing music that showcased the virtuosity of star singers and influenced opera audiences across Europe.

“Vivo senza alma” is a duet for 2 treble voice from Muzio Scevola. It’s first First performance, was held in London in 1721. Roles originally sung by Berselli as Orazio (soprano castrato) and Anastasia Robinson as Irene (mezzo).

Muzio Scevola is one of the few examples of an opera produced in London written by three composers: Filippo Amadei (Act 1), Giovanni Bononcini (Act 2) and George Frederick Handel (Act 3).
