George Frideric Handel (1685–1759) was a German-born composer who later became a naturalized British citizen and one of the great opera composers of the Baroque era. Trained in Germany and Italy, he mastered the Italian operatic style before settling in London. He composed more than forty Italian operas, shaping opera seria through expressive arias, vivid characterization, and strong dramatic pacing, writing music that showcased the virtuosity of star singers and influenced opera audiences across Europe.

“Tu caro, caro sei” is a vocal duet from Sosarme by George Frideric Handel, first performed in London in 1732. This expressive Baroque duet was originally sung by the celebrated castrato Senesino in the role of Sosarme (alto castrato) and renowned soprano Anna Maria Strada del Pö as Elmira.
