He was born in Florence and spent most of his life there composing operas. His operas and intermezzi were tremendously successful throughout Europe. His intermezzo, “Il Marito Giocatore” was one of the most performed operas of the 18th century and was one of the operas that contributed to the “War of the Bouffons” in 1752. The War of the Bouffons, was a pamphlet war between supporters of French opera and Italian comic opera, which resulted in the dominance of Italian over French comic opera. “Il Marito giocatore e la moglie bacchettona” was first performed in Verona in 1715 in conjunction.
