Historical background
Giuseppe Sellitto or Sellitti (1700-1777) was born in Naples where he spent most of his life. He started his career writing dramatic operas. It is not known exactly how many operas he wrote though he claimed to have written 46.
Drusilla e Strabone (also known as La vedova ingegnosa) Librettist Tommaso Mariani and inserted into the opera Demofoonte which was written by Francesco Mancini , Domenico Sarro and Leonardo Leo. It premiered in Napoli in the Teatro di San Bartolomeo in 1735.
Intermezzi
Intermezzi, such as Drusilla e Strambone, are short, comic operas that performers present between the acts of a larger opera seria (serious opera). Typically, performers present each act of the intermezzo during the breaks between the acts of the main opera. These intermezzi usually involve just two main characters—a soprano and a bass—who carry out the comedic action.
Her schemes drive the comedy. Musically, her lines are light and agile. The bass is generally a buffo character and has a large vocal range and uses patter (fast vocal passages) which show humor. These domestic stories offer a delightful contrast to the tragedy of the main opera.
