Story of the opera:  The story is set in 1912 and follows the cross-cultural romance between Lisa, a Viennese noblewoman, and Prince Sou-Chong, a Chinese diplomat. After falling in love in Vienna, Lisa travels with the Prince to China, but they eventually discover that their cultural differences and societal expectations make their life together impossible.
