Lyrics:
1. As I walked through the meadows to take the fresh air, the flowers were blooming that day,
I heard a maiden so sweetly sing, her cheeks like a blossom in May.
Said I pretty maiden and how came you here, the metals this morning so soon? The maid she replied; for to gather some may, the trees that are in full bloom.
2. Said I dearest maiden shall I go with you to the meadows to gather some may?
“Oh no, sir she said I would rather refuse, I fear you’d leave me astray.
Then I took this maiden by the lily white hand; in the metal so fresh and so green.
I placed a dear kiss on her sweet rosy lips, the loveliest girl I have seen.
3 How we happily walked through the meadow, while strolling hand in hand.
I controlled my love to this sweet lovely maid, the finest in all the land.
And so early next morning I made my bride, there was no better time than today.
The bells they rang and the birds they did sing, I crowned her the Queen of May.
